Limber

A homemade frozen treat set in a small plastic cup that you eat by pushing it up from the bottom. Flavors include coconut, tamarind, guava, maví and cream, and neighbors sell them from their own homes for a dollar or less. It is the island's childhood sweet and still the cheapest thing you can buy on a hot day.

Example

A handwritten limbers sign in a house window means they are sold there, and that they were made in that kitchen.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the name come from?
The story repeated on the island links it to aviator Charles Lindbergh and his 1928 visit. That is oral tradition rather than documented origin.
Can I buy one in a shop?
Mostly from private homes and corner stores. Handwritten signs are the giveaway.
