Arroz mamposteao
Day old white rice sautéed with stewed beans, sofrito and often bacon or ham. It started as a way to use leftovers and ended up a dish with its own name. It works as a side for meat and fish and is common in modern criollo restaurants.
Example
If you cannot decide between white rice and beans on the side, mamposteao gives you both in one plate and with more flavor.

Frequently asked questions
Is it just rice and beans?
No. In mamposteao the rice and beans are sautéed together, so the grain takes on color and flavor. Served separately it is a different dish.
Does it contain meat?
Many versions include bacon or ham. Ask if you need it meat free, because menus rarely say.
