Alcapurria

A torpedo shaped fritter of green banana and taro root dough stuffed with seasoned ground beef or with land crab. It is the star of beach kiosks and you eat it with your hands straight out of the fryer. It costs a few dollars a piece and one goes a long way.

Example

At the Piñones kiosks you order a crab alcapurria and a cold malta and eat standing up facing the water.

Frequently asked questions

Which filling should a first timer order?
Ground beef is the safe pick. The land crab version is what locals go for and it tastes much stronger.
Is beach kiosk food safe?
If there is a line and fritters come out of the oil in front of you, yes. Turnover is the best hygiene signal.
