Castillo San Cristóbal

The largest Spanish fortification built in the Americas, raised to defend San Juan by land while El Morro faced the sea. It covers several hectares in stepped levels with tunnels, sentry boxes and an outer defense system. It sits at the eastern edge of Old San Juan and shares its ticket with El Morro.

Example

If you only have time for one, El Morro has the views and San Cristóbal has the military engineering.

Is it worth it after El Morro?
Yes, they are different. San Cristóbal explains the land defense of the city and has tunnels and sentry boxes El Morro lacks.
Is there shade?
Little on the upper terraces. Hat, water and avoiding midday is the standard advice for both forts.
