What it is
Lajas grows the piña paradisíaca, a local pineapple variety, and dedicates a festival to it on the waterfront of La Parguera with tens of thousands of pounds of fruit. It is a genuine agricultural and food festival, with visits to pineapple farms on top of the kiosks. Admission and parking are free.
What to expect
Four days of kiosks with pineapple dishes and desserts, crafts, live music from local bands and trips out to the farms where you can watch the harvest. La Parguera is a fishing village with houses over the water, so the festival is lived on the waterfront with the sea in front of you. It is an afternoon and evening plan, since the midday heat is strong.
Getting there
La Parguera is about two and a half hours from San Juan on the PR-52 and the PR-2, and half an hour west of Ponce. You need a car, because there is no useful public transport to the village. Parking along the waterfront is free but it fills up, so arrive before sunset.
