Puerto Rico observes both US federal holidays and its own, such as Three Kings Day, Emancipation Day on March 22, Constitution Day on July 25 and Puerto Rican Identity Day on November 19. The governor can move a holiday by proclamation to the nearest Monday or Friday, so check the official announcements close to your trip.
Long weekends in 2027
Eleven holidays are observed on a Monday or a Friday: January 1, January 18, February 15, March 22, March 26, May 31, Monday, July 5, Monday, July 26, September 6, October 11 and November 19. Many islanders head to the beach or to Culebra and Vieques on those weekends, so book ferries and hotels early. Four holidays fall on a weekend: Juneteenth on Saturday, June 19, US Independence Day on Sunday, July 4, Constitution Day on Sunday, July 25 and Christmas on Saturday, December 25. The Puerto Rico government and federal offices observe Independence Day on Monday, July 5.
Holy Week 2027
Palm Sunday is March 21, 2027 and Easter Sunday is March 28. Good Friday, March 26, is a public holiday in Puerto Rico. It is a popular week for local trips, so reserve rental cars and beach hotels ahead.
Hurricane season
The official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. It does not mean constant storms, but check the forecast before you fly and book with flexible cancellation.
