Mangle rojo
The mangrove species that grows at the water's edge on those unmistakable arching prop roots. It forms the tunnels of the kayak channels and supports the dinoflagellates in the bioluminescent bays. Its fallen leaves feed that ecosystem, which is why bays with healthy mangrove glow brighter.
Exemple
When the guide says the bay glows because the mangrove is healthy, the red mangrove at the edge is what they mean.
